-Flaring/Venting from petroleum installations results in  wastage of valuable gas, 
-Gas from new gas fields wasted till pipeline is connected-  may not be feasible if gas reserve is less, 
-Flaring (emergency flaring/ process flaring/ production  flaring) is preferred way of disposing gas, 
-India burns about 850 MMSCM of NG annually, ~2.6% of  the total gas it produces,   
-Adds up to Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, 
-Flare gas can be monetized by setting up micro LNG  liquefaction plants.
